Recent reports indicate that Allianz SE has emerged as the frontrunner to acquire HSBC Life Singapore in a deal that could be worth up to USD 2 billion. According to Insurance Business Magazine Asia, citing Bloomberg, Allianz has outbid competing insurers and is currently finalising deal terms with HSBC, although discussions remain ongoing and no final agreement has been reached.

Allianz Reportedly Ahead of Rival Bidders

Bloomberg sources, as reported by Insurance Business Magazine Asia, stated that Allianz has moved ahead of other interested insurers in the bidding process for HSBC Life Singapore. The report noted that Sumitomo Life Insurance and Daiichi Life Group remain among the other bidders, while previous reports also identified Sun Life Financial and Nippon Life Insurance as parties that had expressed interest in the business.

HSBC Continues Strategic Review

The proposed transaction follows HSBC's strategic review of its Singapore insurance business, which began in January 2026. According to the report, the review forms part of the bank's broader strategy under CEO Georges Elhedery to streamline operations while maintaining Singapore as a key international wealth and wholesale banking hub.

HSBC acquired AXA Singapore for approximately USD 529 million in 2022. If the reported transaction proceeds at a valuation of up to USD 2 billion, it would represent a substantial increase in value since the acquisition.

Current Status

According to Bloomberg, HSBC confirmed that its Singapore insurance business remains under strategic review and that no decision has been made regarding a sale. Allianz declined to comment on the reported discussions.
