Asia Insurance Product Trends: July 2026

2 min read

Insurance product launches across Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong during July highlight a growing emphasis on legacy planning, wider access to cover and more flexible ways of rewarding long-term policyholders.

Rather than relying on headline benefit amounts, insurers are tailoring products to specific customer needs, from multi-generational wealth transfer to cover for applicants who were previously difficult to insure.

Key observations:

Indonesia

Savings products continue to combine guaranteed annual cash benefits and maturity payouts with enhanced accidental death protection, over limited premium payment terms. Bank referral distribution and policy options in both IDR and USD broaden how these plans reach customers.

Singapore

Savings and life protection launches are increasingly tailored to specific needs, from single-premium plans with guaranteed maturity values and regular cash payouts, to a maternity protection series covering pregnancy, congenital conditions and a child’s early years, with child cover obtainable without medical underwriting. Personal accident cover also continues to reward claim-free policyholders through no-claim discounts. An investment-linked plan invests premiums in full from day one, with welcome bonuses of up to 75%, an annual loyalty bonus and free fund switching

Malaysia

Investment-linked and takaful plans continue to strengthen legacy and loyalty features, including multi-currency reference options, staggered payouts, flexible death settlement options and welcome, loyalty and booster bonuses. Savings and medical products complement these with short-term guaranteed cash payouts, no lifetime limits, deductible options and cashless admission through a mobile e-medical card.

Hong Kong

Savings products continue to deepen legacy planning through policy splitting, change of insured and multi-currency options, including plans that send regular withdrawals directly to extended family members’ bank accounts. Critical illness launches now extend to applicants recovering from cancer, living with well-managed diabetes or following a cardiovascular event, while a new medical solution offers enrolment without health underwriting for eligible members, together with a conversion option between plans without underwriting.

Looking ahead

Across the region, insurers are increasingly broadening who can be covered and how benefits can be passed on, rather than simply expanding benefit amounts.

Key areas of innovation include:

  • legacy and wealth-transfer features;

  • multi-currency flexibility;

  • access for previously hard-to-insure customers;

  • simplified underwriting;

  • life-stage based protection.

For insurers reviewing their product portfolios, regular benchmarking against regional developments can help identify where access, flexibility and legacy features are becoming market expectations, while supporting commercially sustainable product enhancements.
